Airlines Best Cabin Staff 2010

Singapore Airlines win World's Best Cabin Staff award at 2010 World Airline Awards

Singapore Airlines was again named the winner of the World's Best Cabin Staff Award for 2010. This was announced at the 2010 World Airline Awards in Hamburg.

The list of winners were:

First: Singapore Airlines

Second: Malaysia Airlines

Third : Asiana Airlines

The awarding organisation was Skytrax, an independent organisation that did the rating of the airlines based on the predetermined criteria.

Rating Methods
The selections of the airlines are based on the passengers's survey. Random selection of the passengers were made based on certain agreed selection matrix.

According to Skytrax, more than 17.9 million air travellers from over 100 different nationalities took part in the 10 month survey, from July 2009 to April 2010. The World Airline Awards were established in 1999, and known as the Passengers' Choice Awards for the simple reason, the ratings were made by real passengers.

The survey measures over 38 items of airline product and service standards. Assessing the customer experience across Airport and Onboard environments - check-in to boarding - onboard seat comfort, cabin cleanliness, food, beverages, IFE and staff service.

The Awards Occassion

Over 40 airlines from around the world assembled at the World Airline Awards in Hamburg to receive their accolades. The award winners are selected by the airline industry's most important audience - it's customers.

ONBOARD : STAFF SERVICE
Based on the research, these are the main items assessed to measure the Cabin Crew services. This is not the official Skytrax information and measures may have changed.

Items Measured:

Assistance during Boarding
Friendliness of Staff
Service Attentiveness / Efficiency
Consistency of Service across different flights
Staff Language skills
Meal service efficiency
Availability thru Flight / Cabin presence
PA announcements
Assisting families with children
Problem solving Skills
General Staff Attitudes
Staff Grooming

Conclusion

The Skytrax does not measure the companies performance. It is a perception measures. However there seem to be some correlation between the company's performance and the skytrax rating, e.g Singapore Airline was rated with the best cabin staff award, and it is not a coincidence that SIA is Financially, the Top airlines in the world. .

skytrax - best 20 airports for 2010

Skytrax has selected the best 20 airports for 2010.

The video shows them.

About 10 millions passengers surveys were carried out. The first position went to Changi in Singapore. It was a tough and close fight with South Korean, Incheon Airport.

New Zealand was happy when Auckland received the 9th position upsetting the Australian. The Aussies only managed at its best the 18 position for Brisbane.

A comprehensive surveys were carried out under the three main headings:
- The products and facilities
- The staff services
- the website.

B. The measures the passengers satisfaction throughout his journey passing through the airport. Imagine the stages a passenger has to pass through, example on arrival. As he step out of the aircraft door, the long walk to the immigration check point and then the waiting for the bags.

Then the customs clearance, followed by the transport to the destination are all being measured. The same is being done for departing passengers.

World's top 20 best airports

1 Singapore
2 Seoul Incheon
3 Hong Kong
4 Munich
5 Kuala Lumpur
6 Zurich
7 Amsterdam
8 Beijing
9 Auckland
10 Bangkok
11 Vancouver
12 Kansai
13 Centrair Nagoya
14 Helsinki
15 Copenhagen
16 Frankfurt Main
17 Tokyo Narita
18 Brisbane
19 Cape Town
20 San Francisco

A survey of this nature will certainly not a pure scientific measure. The elements of perceptions and feel is the main contributor to the measure. However it does separate the better airports to th mediocre.

Skytrax Award - Best Cabin Staff

One of the awards given by skytrax is in the category of "best cabin staff". For 2010, the best cabin staff are:
1. Singapore Airlines
2. Malaysia Airlines
3. Asiana Airlines

The process of selections are made by the surveys made on the passengers. The airlines are very concerned on the outcome of the surveys, as winning the awards speaks loudly and clearly on the standard of the cabin services.

In preparation for the skytrax surveys, airline's are making their own effort to rate its own services. The following three methods can be used to do the advanced assessments and correct the situation,
- Crew assessment
- Airlines own surveys
- Passengers complaints and compliments.

Some of the areas covered under to be covered in the above assessments are:

1. Courtesy - the are specific measures on courtesy, such as, the welcoming wish, how does the crew wish the passengers. Was there any smile?, eye contacts?.

2. Staff Efficiency

3. Friendliness and Attentiveness

4.Response to Request

5. Order Accuracy

The surveys are more like a perception surveys. It is like asking a question of .."how do you feel about the courtesy of the staff". There is no quantitative measure and like any perception surveys, it is influenced by the feeling of the passengers.

The airlines in the Asian Regions had been consistently getting the award of the best cabin staff. It is good advertisement for the airlines in the region.
