I was viewing the Garuda website. There are alot of vacancy for cabin crew.

They dont call the crew as "cabin crew". They call the "awak" a malay term used originally for a sailor in a ship.

It look like Garuda is on an extensive expansion mood. More opportunities for Indonesians to become a cabin crew.

I am reviewing the cabin crew vacancy for airlines in South East Asia. For Garuda, I had selected the local term of Pramugari Garuda to assist the local searches. However, to my disappointment, there are no vacancy and the last opening was in July 2010. I included that for reference purposes only. At least it will give the indication of the basic requirements for the interested individuals.

About Garuda Indonesia

Garuda is the name of a large bird in the legends in Indonesia as well as the surrounding countries. It is befitting to name the airline Garuda to denote its flying characters. Garuda Indonesia is the pioneer airline and the largest in Indonesia serving 43 domestic and international stations.

The fleet consists of 48 aircrafts, 3 B-747-400s, 6 of A-330-300s and 39 B-737s.

The international destinations include Bangkok, Hongkong, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Guangzhou (Canton), Beijing, Shanghai

Last month we received the news that the pilots for the Garuda Air went on strike over the issue of pay. They were upset that the expatriates were paid higher.

This sort of strike will certainly harm the airline's effort to profitability. The airline was recently privatized and need to work quickly towards breaking even. Indonesia with a population of over 200 mil will certain be able to support a number of airlines and not to led a foreign airline like AirAsia to control their sky.

It is normal to have the foreign workers to be paid higher, I had been in airlines aver 30 years and had travelled across the globe. All growing airlines or newly started up airlines will depend on foreign expertize. In Indian, the Jet airways started and managed by a group of Malaysia ex MAS, and many of my colleages were there to help set up the airline.

We hope the Indonesian come up to their sense and work to build up Garuda Air.

Vacancy for Pramugari Garuda Air

The Indonesian Garuda Airline was awarded as the most improved airline in 2010. It is interesting to watch, as the airline was facing serious problem a few years ago. It was ahead of the runner up Hainan Airlines and the third position, Oman Air.

Garuda was having another good news when it was awarded the official 4 star airlines. The 4 star recognition were made in the long haul as well as the short haul flights, both for Business class and economy class.

A few weeks ago Garuda Air had successfully had its first IPO, and it is a private company now. However the good news did not stay very long. With the recent incidents and the middle east, the price of oil had been on the up trend raising fear that Garuda may not be able to sustain the airlines positive trend. The fear was made worst by the fact that the stock price quoted in the IPO was higher compared to its peers.

Following these, the stock price had closed lower at 620 rupiah compared to the IPO price of 750 rupiah.
