RIYADH: A Sri Lankan woman traveling Thursday from Riyadh to Colombo aboard a SriLankan Airlines plane gave birth to a baby boy during the flight.

“The cabin crew handled the situation with the support of a Canadian passenger, a professional midwife, without disrupting the flight which arrived in Colombo on schedule,” said an airline official.

After landing, a medical crew on hand at the Bandaranaike International Airport rushed the mother and baby to hospital where they were reported to be healthy.

The standard operating procedure requires the crew to seek professional assistance from the flying passengers.

The crews are trained to handle delivery, but they are not professional in this. A 2 day training will not be able to make them the experts.
