In the air hostess interview, you will judged on many areas. The judgement madeby the interview panel members is not necessarily based on logic or the cognitive domain, it can be based on emotional element or the feelings. For that short interaction, the judgement or most of the time the decisions has to be made whether to employ you or not.
The interviewer will undoubtedly ask the question, why do you apply for this job?. There is alot that can be deduced from the answers. Even if the interviewee had planned for the answers, a skillfull interviewer will sense if it is fake and will drill deeper to find out. If you were to say that you are looking for for challenges, then it may carry different message. You may be viewed as job hopper and will move on when you have learned about the job and the challenges are overcome. Normally companies will try as possible not to employ a job hopper, as the recruitment and training processes are costly. If you say you are NOT satisfied with your existing job, then be prepared to reveal the truth.
The next question .. or maybe this can be the first questions.. tell me about yourself. Do not assume that they had read your biodata that you has sent. If you think it is necessary, talk about your education, then you have the chance to insert points to shown your suitability to the job... for example... if the job require you to do public talks... then tell them of your involvement in debate or seminars or talk.. You can ask the interviewer on the areas to be covered.
E.g.... well, sir... if you like, I can talk about my education... my interest or my family.. if it is agreeable let me start with my education background, then the job related issues. I can cover the family if necessary.
Question: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?.
This is a favorite question among the panel. Unfortunately many participants are not prepared for this question. Answering it require planning and research. Planning means you must build some idea about your career, do not fill up the gap. Gap filling is ok for a student to fill up the semesters break. Research and find out about the company your are applying and the job.
If you are applying for the position of a cabin crew, then knowing the career ladder will help. Different airlines will have different setup, probably, junior crew, senior crew, leading steward and in-flight supervisors. Then you need to find out the trend of promotion. Let say in that airline, the norm is... it take 10 years to become a flight supervisor, so when you are asked your vision in five years time.. do not say you see yourself as a supervisor. The persons that conduct the interview will be offended especially if it took him 20 years to reach that position.
Finally, the interview is a two way communication. Similarly employment is a relationship between two parties, you and the company. Prepare some questions, with intend to find out, not to check the knowledge of the interview panel. If you already know the answer, please do not ask. Avoid the question of pay, stress on roles and responsibilities. The company is looking for talents.
I hope this short note is of value and good luck in you air hostess interview..
